The Departure' is a student made, 2 minute, opening sequence, created for media coursework. The Departure made use of the enigma code (Barthes theory) to grab our attention and to 'hook' us from start to finish. Even though no dialogue was produced, the narrative was still clear and therefore made the thriller genre obvious. During the opening sequence, there was volume increase which let us know when the 'scarier' moments were coming and we believed this technique was very effective.
