Viran's Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The media film sequence we have created has kept many slasher film conventions such as; concealing the killers identity, which can be compared to with other notable sdlashers such as Friday the 13th ,Halloween and scream. We have challenged the conventions of the genre by giving the killer a voice, which is usually silent throughout the whole film.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The media product represents a disturbed and violent social group as the product contains many violent looking scenes alongside the tension and suspense in the music of the heart beat. The male population is represented as superior to the female population as we have used several high angle shots to show the man is in control.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Since we have developed a low budget movie opening it is likely that a smaller institution would distribute our media product. This is because firstly; the slasher genre is a sub genre of horror, which is generally followed by die hard slasher fans so not as many people would want to go and see it as it is not the most popular genre.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

the audience we have made this product for would be people aged from 18 years and upwards as it contains very violent notions of death, gore and blood that my affect a viewer of a younger age. Die hard slasher fans would want to go and see the film as they follow a cult.

How did you attract/address your audience?

we attract the audience my the catch and gripping film opening and the moment of the killer not being know by face only by his masked identity. The senses of mystery makes the audience want to find out who the killer is .we have left many questions unanswered as the audience don’t know how the kills his victims and why.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Through this process of filming and editing I have learnt that the technologies we have been provided with are not very reliable at keeping the work saved and importing as these problems caused us to waste time when trying to save and import our movie files to the Mac computers.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back on our preliminary I have learnt how to control the lighting of the filming and how to keep all shots the same by using continuity and how we could improve the sound quality in the new clips. The preliminary task has taught us a lot about camera shots and angles.
