In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In our media product we used and developed certain conventions, for example the sound in the 2 minute opening scene causes an enigma and tension. Also we used the idea of having a female victim, which is used in a majority of slasher films like Halloween, silent night deadly night and prom night.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
As a slasher theme there is a lot of gender discrimination. Women are seen as weak and vulnerable towards men, who are the main characters and are seen as more strong and overpowering. This causes a lot of controversies in social groups when discussing feminism.
What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?
I think the best institution distributor choice for our media product should be Universal Pictures Video because it’s a well known institute; it deals with a majority of 15 and 18+ films and is also known for its specialties in the horror genre. Some of their products include Scream (1996) and Psycho (1960).
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience we would prefer for our media product would have to be 18 and older due to the amount of exposure of blood and violence throughout the whole film. The scenes of graphic violence in a slasher film is what seperates it from a 15 and 18 certificate.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We attracted the audience by making two different posters and posting them on our blog. Both posters include the main character, the similarities are that they both have a dark back drop which represents the main characters emotions and mind state. The difference between the posters is that the victim is included in the second poster which we chose and decided represent the opening sequence better.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
During the process I have learnt the different technologies which consist of editing and filming, but as a member of the group my job was mainly to take pictures of our progression and also take pictures for our opening sequence.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you tell you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt the different filming shots and angles. Also to manipulate light to your advantage. Which we did in our opening sequence. We have used different shot angles such as point of view shots and other more complex shots.
