The BBFC
‘The British Board of Film Classification is an independent, non-governmental body, which has classified cinema films since it was set up in 1912 and videos since the passing of the Video Recordings Act in 1984.’ – From the BBFC website. It’s the organisation legally responsible for film classification within the United Kingdom. This means that films from overseas must be certified by the BBFC, when delivered to Britain, before its distribution to the public.
